Virginia LaVerne Welch (Garris)

Pfafftown – Mrs. LaVerne Welch Garris, 70, of Pfafftown, went home to be with the Lord on March 28, 2021.

She was born on December 20, 1950, in Forsyth County to the late Ruth Davis Welch and Vernon Lester Welch.

She graduated from East Forsyth High School, Barbizon Beauty College, and a Christian Education Degree at Winston-Salem Bible College. She was on the Board of Gonaives Christian Mission in Haiti. She went to Haiti and started eight to ten churches and helped support Son Light Christian Mission. She was a faithful member of Matthew Chapel and now Oak Summit Community Church, where she spent thirty-five years teaching Sunday School. She supported cancer centers at St. Jude, Duke, and Novant Health.

She loved witnessing to anyone about the Lord. She loved her church and her family.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Garris was preceded in death by her sister, JoAnn Welch.

Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband of fifty-three years, Jimmy Garris, one child, Kimberly Speas (Tim); one grand dog, Bailey; sisters, Nancy Mason, and Shelby Woodruff; several nieces, nephews, and close friends, who will miss her dearly.

A visitation will be held for close friends and family from 12:30 PM until 1:45 PM at Slate Funeral Home in King, on April 1, 2021, with funeral services beginning at 2:00 PM with Minister Dave Bohrer, and Matthew Lineback officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories in Walkertown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Summit Community Church, 284 Oak Summit Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27105.

My sincere condolence to family. So very sorry to  learn of another classmate passing, but I know she is in Heaven now as her reward for a lifetime of work honoring God and serving Him. God Bless and fly high with the Angels and fellow Eagles now.
