Miss Dogpatch Pageant.
I was representing Ms. Rollinson's third period class in the pageant. I was looking real good that day my friends. As good as any high school male can look in a dress. I played the guitar and sang.
I made the top three then we had the question. I don't remember the question but had a really good answer using a famous line from Jonathan Winters who was on TV at the time.
The judges made their decision. I was first runner up, coming in second to a half man/half women act. I believe it was Doug Mabe. What a shock! All that preparation and many minutes of practice and training down the drain.
To this day I believe the pageant was rigged and I swore never to compete again. And I kept that promise and have never entered another beauty pageant.

Graduated from NCSU with BS in Wildlife Conservation and started Grad school at LSU in Marine Science. Was tired of school so dropped out. Short time with Fish & Wildlife Service

I have worked for Forsyth County since 1974. Four years with Sheriff's Dept. Ten years with Risk Management. Twenty years with Environmental Affairs. Retired in 2005 and stayed on part-time.

Budget cuts in 2011 at the county so they decided to lay off the part-time people. A few months later I got a part-time job at R. J. Reynolds Tob. Co. I work in their Environment, Health & Safety Dept. Really enjoy working on the other side of the fence. Plan to fully retire in a few more years.

As a Deputy Sheriff, I was assigned to East High School as the School Resource Officer. This was only seven years after graduating. Mr. Lewis was still principal and Mr. Clark was Asst. Principal. It was a different world with all the drug use on campus. It was hard to believe that every month students were arrested for drugs at East High. I felt really sorry for Mr. Lewis who was used to students respecting him and the teachers. He had had enough and retired around 1976 while I was working there.

I didn't get married until I was 34 to a wonderful person. Not many people would put up with me. We never had children but have several nieces/nephews and now great nieces/nephews.

Past time.
Bicycling was our past time for many years with many cycling vacations around eastern US. We have also biked in Ireland and France.

We traveled a lot prior to 911 but have not really been out of the country since. Ireland was our favorite country. Paris and Copenhagen our favorite cities. The best trip was taking my father, who was a WWII veteran, to England and France and visiting the places he fought during the war.

Both my parents are still living but my mother has had two strokes which has left her disabled. I spend most of my spare time at their house helping to look after her. I am sure there are others in our generation in the same situation.

My mother passed away in July, 2011. I miss her but know that she is in a better place. Still looking after my father who is now 90 and is having memory issues but he is still living at home with some help.

I have been real active with my church (Christ Moravian) and have gone on many mission trips with our youth group working on houses for needy families.

Now I am really into sailing and have a sailboat in New Bern where I spend as much time as possible.
